The humble garter stitch. Simple and basic. A beginner's knitting. So very versatile.
Now, I'm a lover of cables and lace, but garter stitch has invaded my knitting.
First it was the Litla Dimun shawl.
Knitpicks Palette in Tidepool Heather, 5 skeins, US 6 needles. It was a pretty quick television (easy) knit, completed in about a week in January. I love the simple yo's that create the center back and border designs. The shawl was a gift for my ex's grandmother (with whom I remain close). I mailed the package off to her unannounced (surprise) and she called me as soon as it arrived. She loves it!
Currently on the needles are three more garter stitch projects: a BSJ (Elizabeth Zimmerman's Baby Surprise Jacket) to donate to our local CareNet pregnancy center, a Truly Tasha's Shawl for me, and a secret surprise item that will be finished in the next day or so.
So you see that I've become enamoured of the garter stitch and its simplicity. Really, though, it makes for good, mindless knitting.
